More About Buying A Home In University Community - Edmonton, AB:
Within the greater University region, a number of communities have residential and business amenities and a strongly established history. Communities of the University area include Allendale, Belgravia, Empire Park, Garneau, Grandview Heights, Lansdowne, Lendrum, Malmo Plains, McKernan, Parkallen, Pleasantview, Queen Alexandra, Strathcona, and Windsor Park. Many of these communities became annexed to the University area as the original Strathcona region was integrated into the greater Edmonton area in 1912. These neighborhoods are well established, and even as development and revitalization projects continue into the present day, the sectors of University have a rich history and a good community culture.
While much of the northern part of the University district started development in the earlier part of the 20th century, many of the outlying communities had remained largely farmland or open holdings until around the 1940's. Construction for these areas continued well into the 1980's as a combination of industrial employment opportunities and the expansion of the University of Alberta led to a greater regional population. Many of the sectors still display a natural environment that is part of the history of the area, and sections of the campus make for distinguishing factors for several neighborhoods.
Much of the University suburb is considered to be very family friendly, and regions cater to both student and family populations. Along with higher educational facilities, parents in the University area will find a highly ranked school system that includes Edmonton Public Schools and private facilities. Some of the institutions for this sector are Allendale School, Avalon Jr. High, Park Allen School, and Strathcona High School. The Alberta School for the Deaf is also found in this area.
Public transportation is very strong throughout the University section of Edmonton, and much of the expansion for this suburb is due to the increase in stations along the North South LRT line. Some of the stops for the area include Belgravia, Southgate, and South Campus. Bus service runs across these communities and gives residents access to the station stops as well as locations within adjoining neighborhoods.
Parts of the University district are situated along the banks of the Saskatchewan River and many of these preserve lands are big attractions. Whitemud Creek Ravine and Rainbow Park are popular destinations, with the Rainbow Valley Campgrounds and Snow Valley Ski Club found in this spot. Cultural Recreations may be sought at the Timms Centre for the Arts and the City Arts Centre.
This area enjoys a diverse population that offers communities entertainment and recreation in a generally relaxing environment. The neighborhoods of University are all well established and can range from purely residential to a mix of commercial and institutional structures along with dwelling space.
