Stony Plain History

Stony Plain began as a small settlement whose original location was 3 km south of today's Stony Plain. German-Russian immigrants moved to the area in 1891 and settled a few kilometres north of present-day Stony Plain. In 1892, the town's name was changed from Dogump Creek to Stony Plain. In 1905, the Canadian Northern Railway arrived in the area but was situated north of the original settlement. This resulted in the town's few buildings being moved to the railway's location.

Stony Plain's communities are High Park, Willow Park, Lake Westerra, The Glens, Heritage Estates, Woodlands, Homesteads, Meridian Heights, Country Plains Estates, Rosenthal Estates, St. Andrews, The Fairways, The Glens, Willow Park, Old Town and Silverston. The town's boundaries are defined by Range Road 12 to the west, and Township Road 522 to the south. Veterans Blvd is close to the eastern boundary, and the northern is close to Yellowhead Highway.
