The residential neighbourhood of Overlanders is situated in northeastern Edmonton in the Hermitage area of the city. The community of Overlanders was named after a few members of a mining group that was travelling to British Columbia who decided to settle in Edmonton rather than going on with their fellow miners. The Victoria Trail borders Overlanders on the east, Kennedale Ravine on the north, and Yellowhead Trail on the south.

There are a number of local area amenities including Dairy Queen, Domino’s Pizza, Papa’s Baked Pizza, Rexall Pharmacy, and the YMCA. Additionally, families with dogs will enjoy taking them for some exercise in a variety of off-leash areas and walking trails. The area is easily accessed by the River Valley via the Kennedale Ravine on Ovelanders’ north side.
Construction began during the 1970’s with more than 40% of residences dating back to that point in time. Today, Overlanders is an ideal blend of low-rise apartments, row houses, and single detached homes. Interestingly enough, only 31% of the residences are owner-occupied while the number of residents in their 20’s and 30’s is higher than the Edmonton average.
For families with children, there are three schools available in the area including Anne Fitzgerald School (Catholic), Belmont School (grades K through 6), and Overlanders Elementary School (grades K through 6) which is administered by the Edmonton Public School System.
