Lewis Estates Homes for Sale - Edmonton

The area commonly referred to as Lewis Estates is west of Anthony Henday Drive and north of Whitemud freeway in west Edmonton. The area was originally agricultural holdings that were incorporated into the city in the late 1990's. The plan for developing this area was finally approved in early 2000, and while many of the communities for the area already have a strong foundation, continued construction is still prevalent to the region.

Lewis Estates Community Amenities & Features:

The Lewis Estates area is bordered by Anthony Henday Drive to the east, Stony Plain Road to the north, and Whitemud Drive to the south. The current western border is 231st Street, although future expansion may change this designation.

Lewis Estates is made up of six distinct neighborhoods, including Breckenridge, Lewis Farms Industrial, Potter Greens, Secord, Webber Greens, and Suder Greens. Each of these communities is planned to increase residential space and outdoor recreations, including pedestrian activities, cycling, and sports. The communities of Lewis Estates are designed to discourage outside vehicle traffic and generate a safe and peaceful environment.

As much of the Lewis Estates area was initially farmlands, this motif has been honored in the development of the separate subdivisions. Modern colonial and farmhouse architecture is used throughout, and many of the open fields have been preserved as scenic vistas.

The original Lewis Farms was founded in 1932 and became a strong family business within the Edmonton area. This agricultural landmark is well known for potatoes, grain, and signature cattle breeds that were carefully selected to produce the Simmental line. These prize cattle are still in high demand, and although much of the original farmland has now formed the residential space of Lewis Estates, the farm is still in operation to the west of the suburb.

The currently developed area of Lewis Estates has a substantial golf course that runs through the housing spaces and is a large attraction for both residents and visitors. The River Cree Resort and Casino is to the south of the suburb and is another destination spot for leisure and recreation. Many residents also visit the nearby West Edmonton Mall for entertainment and shopping.

Lewis Estates is known as a safe and family friendly environment. The development plan includes the expansion of educational facilities, but existing institutions are well ranked in serving the communities. The Winterburn School is one of the main teaching establishments for a number of school age children, and the Sunny View Child Development Centre is also available for younger students. Edmonton Public Schools has provisions for further allocations within the district, and this will continue as development expands.

The location of Lewis Estates is ideal for commuters of any type. Drivers have easy access to the downtown area by way of Whitemud Drive and 87th Avenue, while residents who use public transportation will find an abundance of bus stops and connecting lines throughout the district. This suburb is only about six kilometers from the city centre, but offers residents a relaxing and peaceful environment to live in. Lewis Estates represents a well planned expansion of the city that incorporates the natural beauty of the land into a modern suburb.
