Residential development predominantly occurred in the 1980s and 90s and consists of almost entirely single-detached homes with less than 10% of residences representing duplexes and low-rise apartments. The neighbourhood is named for celebrated municipal reform politician Julia Kiniski who served on City Council for four terms in the 1960s.

Residents enjoy easy access to Kulawy Lake in the neighbourhood’s centre and Mill Creek Ravine along the western boundary of the neighbourhood. Kiniski Gardens is served by the Edmonton Public School Board: Julia Kiniski School for grades K-6, Thelma Chalifoux School for grades 7-9, and McNally School for grades 10-12. The community is represented by the councillor for Ward Sspomitapi, formerly Ward 11, on Edmonton City Council.
